CHANGING THE NORMATIVE NARRATIVE
BROKEN CHAIR is a Swedish / Serbian collaboration between Studio Rebecca Norberg and Damir Krdžović. Damir, being a furniture designer, produced the "broken chair" whose irregular form is a symbolic reinterpretation of a broken leg, or branch. Despite its technical imperfection, the chair serves its purpose with ease.
Together, Rebecca and Damir created a narrative of the chair that questions the status quo of design furniture. By capturing the chair in a street food joint in outer Copenhagen, decorated by the Pakistani owner, and a public bath house in the same area, the normative narrative of design objects was broken. The perfect imperfections of the "broken chair" were brought out by the contexts in which it was placed and the project made a feature on Designboom.
